Introduction
Dermatology Clinic Service was introduced in 1969 in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Subspeciality development within dermatology services began in 1989 and continued to develop, in the field of Phototherapy, Infectious Diseases including Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Dermato-surgery, Allergy & Contact Dermatitis, Paediatric Dermatology and Dermato-oncology. By 1989, the treatment of leprosy was decentralised and incorporated into the various Departments of Dermatology in Malaysia. In October 1995, the sexually transmitted disease clinic, came under the care of the Department of Dermatology, Kuala Lumpur Hospital which then came to be known as Department of Dermatology and Genitourinary Medicine. Henceforth the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) services in Malaysia came officially under the Department of Dermatology in every state. In HKL, Dermatology Clinic is located at Level 6 of the Specialist Complex and Ambulatory Care Centre.
Vision
Malaysia will be a country made up of healthy individuals, families and communities, where skin diseases are not a health problem because the community is already knowledgeable and can share responsibilities towards better health; through high standard, easily accessible and affordable dermatology services.
Mission
To collaborate with the public to improve general health, in particular the skin health through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
Objectives
1. To provide comprehensive care for all skin diseases, genitourinary medicine and Hansen's disease, in order to reduce the incidence and prevalence of physical, social and cosmetic morbidity, while improving health status and increasing productivity.
2. To improve patient involvement and participation in the management of their diseases through health education and counselling.
3. To train, upgrade the knowledge and expertise of students, paramedics, medical officers and specialists in skin, genitourinary medicine and Hansen's disease.
4. To provide a customer-focused and one-stop centre for the care of patients with skin disorders.

Services
The Department of Dermatology provides various services, which include outpatient and inpatient consultation, day care treatment and counselling.

2. Daycare Dermatology Clinic
a) Contact & Occupational Dermatoses
b) Photodermatology (UVB, PUVA & Topical PUVA)
c) Dermato-surgery (Cryotherapy, Cautery, Biopsy etc)
d) Laser Surgery (Pigment, CO2 and Vascular)
e) Topical Immunotherapy
f) Iontophoresis
3. Inpatient Care in Dermatology Ward
The Dermatology Ward consists of male and female wards at Level 2, Administrative Block, HKL, with a total of 12 beds. The patients who require admissions are mainly those with exacerbation of their skin diseases, while multidisciplinary care is practiced to ensure optimum care for patients.
4. Genitourinary Medicine
The Genitourinary Medicine Clinic is a separate clinic situated at the Specialist Complex and Ambulatory Care (SCACC), adjacent the Dermatology Clinic. This enables patients to seek treatment in a more private environment. It is run by an experienced senior medical officer, and all relevant investigations can be done in the same place. Consultation with a dermatologist is within reach for problematic cases.

2. Waiting time to be seen by doctor ≤ 90 mins (from appointment time).
3. Waiting time for appointment ≤ 14 working days for new non-urgent cases
4. We will deliver these services in a comfortable and client-friendly environment for both our internal and external patients.
