Public Health

Introduction

The Public Health Unit was established to assist the District Health Office in public health issues such as infectious disease notification management, vector control management, tobacco monitoring and food premise hygiene monitoring.

1.1 Previous / Initial

Early establishment, this unit had a total of 5 staff consisting of 1 U8 Health Inspector, 2 U14 Public Health

Assistants, 1 Health Attendant and 1 Junior General Assistant. The position of Health Inspector and Public Health Assistants are seconded from the Gombak District Health Office.

1.2 Present Time

Now, the scope of services has been expanded to 5 core tasks, namely (i) Infectious Disease Control, (ii) Vector Control, (iii) Food Safety and Quality, (iv) Occupational Health and Environmental Hygiene and (v) Public Law Enforcement. In accordance to the increasement of workload, HKL’s Public Health Unit has expanded to a total of 19 staff consisting of Administrative Medical Officer UD54 (1), Medical Officer UD52 (1), Medical Officer UD48 (3), Environmental Health Officer U44 and U41 (2), Assistant Environmental Health Officer U36 (1), Assistant Environmental Health Officer U32 (1), Assistant Health Officer Environment U29 (5), Public Health Assistant U24 and U19 (2), Administrative Assistant N19 (1) and Health Care Assistant U14 and U11 (2).

Public Health Unit HKL, will be a center of excellence in public health activities.     

Mision

Implementing public health activities in hospitals by ensuring the quality of services provided and emphasize the spirit of cooperation with the involvement of employees, patients and the public.

Objective

1.  To ensure all infectious disease notification are reported through the e-notification system.

2.  To ensure vector control activities are implemented throughout and around Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

3.  To ensure that the entire area within Hospital Kuala Lumpur is a “smoke free zone” through the enforcement of the Tobacco Products Control Regulations 2004.

4.  To ensure the food premises in Hospital Kuala Lumpur are always good hygiene and cleanliness.

Services

1. Handling of infectious disease case notification.

2. Conducting inspection on aedes study through Dengue Free Facilities for Health Facilities.

3. Inspection on food premises pertaining the Food Act 1983 & Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

4. Enforcement of the Tobacco Products Control Regulations 2004 in the hospital area.

- Notifications delay does not exceed 3% of the total notifications received.
