Introduction
Neurology services in HKL started since 1963 with the arrival of Dr Roy Clifton Selby, a neurosurgeon under CARE/MEDICO program, United States of America. Initially the development of neurological services was very slow due to a lack of neurologists1. In 1971, the development of the neurological services took off after the arrival of Dr Hans Isler from Switzerland and later followed by first the local neurologist, Dr. C Balaratnam2.
With the opening of Institut Kajisaraf Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1973, neurology services continued to grow under the leadership of Dato’ Dr. C Balaratnam (1971 – 1982), Dr. Sabri bin Rejab (1982 – 1983), Dato’ Dr Mohd Rani bin Jusoh (1983 – 2001), Datuk Dr Raihanah bt Abdul Khalid (2001 – 2005), Dato’ Dr Mohd Hanip bin Rafia (2005 – 2016) Dr Santhi Datuk Puvanarajah (2016-2021) and Dr Shanthi Viswanathan (2021- present).
