Introduction
Dietetic and Food Service department is one of the clinical support services offered in Hospital Kuala Lumpur ((HKL). Our department is located in the main block of the hospital. The main functional scope of our department is divided into two, which are clinical dietetic services and food services providing diet to clients (In- patients, day care patients and health care personnels who are qualified).
Vision
Be a center of excellence in the provision of clinical dietetic service, hospital food service and activities to increase the quality of customer-centric services professionally.
Mission
1. Provide accurate, efficient and high quality dietetic and food services using the current technological advancement
2. Provide clinical dietetic attachment training
Objective and Function
1. Dietetic
1.1. Provide medical nutrition therapy services by applying the nutrition care process
1.2. Advocate health promotion to improve the nutrition status of patients
2. Food Services
Serve the right food to the right patients in order to improve their nutrition status according to their needs and complements their overall medical treatment as well as maintaining customer satisfaction

Services
A. Clinical Dietetic Services
Clinical dietetic services are provided to in-patients and out-patients through Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) based on referrals from Medical Officers.This service includes:
- In-patient and out-patient management based on evidence-based and multi professional approach with other professions involved in patient care;
- Prescription of therapeutic diet for patients in the ward;
- Prescription of enteral formula either for oral supplementation or tube feeding or a combination for in-patients and out-patients;
- Individual and group nutrition education for outpatients (by appointment)
- Community service, lectures, workshops and seminars by invitation.

B. Food Services
Our department food services provides healthy, balanced diet in accordance with the principles of HALAL guaranteed system and food safety to in-patients and qualified healthcare personnel. We also supply enteral products (milk) to patients as needed, whether as oral supplements or tube feeding.
Clients who received this service includes:
1. In- patients;
2. Daycare patients and registered patients at Hemodialysis Unit; and,
3. Qualified healthcare personnel based on Ministry of Health’s circular :
- Medical Officer who is On Call;
- Medical Officer who is on duty in Operation Theatre; and,
- Paramedic who is on duty in Operation Theatre.
Food service system used in Hospital Kuala Lumpur is a hybrid serving system, which combines both bulk and centralized system.
Type of menu served in the ward:
- Normal diet
- Vegetarian diet
- Therapeutic diet (Diabetic/ Low salt/ Low fat/ Renal/ High Protein)
- Texture Modified Diet (Soft/ Minced/ Blenderised)
